3M Advanced Headlight Restoration System Review
Here is what you need to restore your headlights
- 3M Advanced Headlight Restoration System – https://amzn.to/3KLA2R6
- Household drill – https://amzn.to/3Wxp9oi
- 2″ painter tape – https://amzn.to/46Zawiw
Steps to restore your headlights
- Put painter tape around headlights to protect the sandpaper from damaging your paint. Don’t be lazy here as it will come back to bite you later with scratch marks
- Get the velco adapter and attach to your drill.
- Get the sandpaper pad called p500. Apply the velcro side to the adapter. There are 6 of these so use 3 on the driver side and 3 on the passenger side headlight. Turn the drill on and move the pad around the headlight. It will scuff the headlights and remove the oxidation. Use 2 more of the pads.
- Get the p800 pad and apply it to the velcro adapter. Turn on the drill and move it around the headlight. This will clear away oxidation as well. There are 2 per headlight of the p800 pads. (4 total)
- Next get the 3000 – wet sanding disch along with a water bottle and spray the headlight with water. Turn on the drill and move the 3000 wet sanding disc around the headlight. It will start to polish the headlight plastic and make it more clear.
- Next get the compounding polish packet and the padded polisher attachment (bright orange) and put it on the drill adapter. Apply some compond to the headlight and turn on the drill. Move it around until the compound works its way into the plastic further clearning up the plastic making it look even clearer.
- When done get a microfiber towel and wipe the headlights clean and sit back and enjoy your restored headlights.
- The project should take anywehere from 30 minutes to an hour per headlight deending on how fast you move. Check out the before and after pictures below.
Verdict 3M Restoration Headlight Kit
The 3M Advanced Headlight Restoration System is a solid product that works well. It won’t turn your headlights into brand new looking but it will make a big improvement to the ability to see out of the headlights and make them look a lot better.
The biggest gripe in my opinion is that they will eventually get oxidized and look ugly again in 4 or 5 years. The sun still shines and weather beats up plastics no matter what you do so as long as you have the expectation that this will make a big difference for a few years then you will be happy with the 3M Advanced Headlight Restoration System.
PROS
- Inexpensive
- Works well
- Easy to apply – no wearing out your wrist and arms
CONS
- Requires drill to use this effectively
- Does not solve the oxidation problem forever, will need to do every 4 or 5 years
