In this how-to article and accompanying video, we show which tools and how easy it is to remove the 12-volt battery (size h4) from your Corolla. We show tips and educate on the difference between lead-acid and AGM batteries that are often used in Toyota Corollas. Also as an added bonus we cover how to prolong life in lead acid batteries by showing you how to gauge whether or not you need to add distilled water to the battery or not so the plates don’t go bad quickly.
NOTE: the battery that comes from Toyota, is a lead acid but you can replace it with an AGM H4 battery as well (2x the life, but more expensive).
The process to remove the 12 volt battery from a 2023 Corolla Hybrid (also applies to many other years of Corollas is listed below:
1. Open the hood.
2. Take an open-ended wrench and loosen the negative terminal nut.
3. Do the same for the positive terminal.
4. Remove the battery tie down bracket using a 12mm socket and extension.
5. Pull battery up and out of engine bay.
6. Inspect battery water level. Add diluted water if water is at the low water marker.
7. If replacing with a new battery, place it back into the void and reverse steps 4, 3, 2, and 1.
